Review: Bambai Meri Jaan – A Gangster Story with Good Characters

There’s a show called ‘Bambai Meri Jaan’ on Amazon Prime Video, and it’s about gangsters and police officers. It has some famous actors like Kay Kay Menon and Avinash Tiwary.

What’s the Story:

The story happened in Bombay, which is now called Mumbai, in the 1960s. It’s about a police officer and his family. But the twist is, that his second son becomes a powerful gangster, even though he fought against gangsters his whole life.

What We Think About the Story:

The show is based on a book called ‘Dongri To Dubai,’ which talks about a famous gangster named Dawood Ibrahim. We’ve seen gangster stories before, but this one tries to be different. It focuses on the father’s point of view and what he thinks about his son becoming a criminal. This makes the characters more interesting.

The show is good at showing that people aren’t just good or bad; they can be both. It makes you question if the gangster is really a hero, even though he sometimes looks like one in the show. The family dynamics are also interesting, especially between the two brothers.

But the show becomes a bit boring when it follows the usual gangster story pattern. It’s like a recipe we’ve seen many times: a person from a poor background chooses the wrong path, something bad happens to them, and they become powerful. This part feels like something we’ve seen before.

The transformation of the main character into a powerful gangster happens too quickly, and we don’t see it clearly. What stands out more is when another character, Habiba, becomes powerful. Her rise to power is shown better.

Acting:

The actors in the show are great. Kay Kay Menon is impressive, and Avinash Tiwary does a good job too. Jitin Gulati is outstanding, and Nivedita Bhattacharya does well as the mother. Kritika Kamra works hard on her character, and Saurabh Sachdeva plays his part nicely.

Direction & Music:

The director, Shujaat Saudagar, creates some nice moments, but sometimes it feels like he’s copying other gangster shows. The art and background music are good, even though some things look too modern for the 1960s.

Final Thoughts:

‘Bambai Meri Jaan’ has some good characters and great acting. But the story isn’t entirely new, so it might not be the most exciting show. Still, it’s worth watching for the characters and performances.
