Visamo Kids Foundation Honours 43 Students in Ahmedabad

Visamo Kids Foundation Brought 250 Guests Together, Including Parents, Students, Donors, And Educators, At The Event

More than 250 parents, teachers, donors, volunteers, former students and supporters gathered at J.B. Auditorium of the Ahmedabad Management Association on Sunday as Visamo Kids Foundation marked its 23rd Scholarship Day, an annual event that recognises academic achievement among children from disadvantaged backgrounds.

The Ahmedabad-based organisation Visamo Kids Foundation honoured 43 students for their academic performance and regular commitment to their studies during the previous academic year. One parent was also recognised for exceptional involvement in supporting a child’s education and participation in Foundation activities.

District Education Officer of Ahmedabad, Rohit Chaudhary, attended the event as chief guest. Addressing students and families, he praised efforts aimed at widening access to education for children from vulnerable communities and encouraged students to remain focused on their goals and continue learning throughout their lives.

Education remains one of the biggest challenges for children from low-income households in many parts of India. While school enrolment rates have improved significantly during the past two decades, studies by government agencies and education researchers continue to show that financial hardship, migration, family circumstances and limited access to educational support remain important reasons why many children leave school early.

Organisations such as Visamo Kids Foundation have emerged in response to these challenges by providing educational support alongside housing, mentoring and personal development programmes for children who require long-term assistance.

Founded in Ahmedabad in 2002 following the Gujarat earthquake, the Foundation initially worked with a small group of children from affected and economically vulnerable families. Over the years, the programme expanded to support children from different districts of Gujarat through partnerships with schools, volunteers and community organisations.

One of the guests of honour at the event was Dr Urmila Makwana, a former beneficiary of the Foundation who later completed her medical education and became a doctor. Sharing her personal experience, she spoke about her journey from being a child supported by the organisation to entering the medical profession.

Her story formed one of several examples presented during the programme to demonstrate how sustained educational support can influence long-term opportunities for children from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Another significant part of the event was the farewell ceremony for students who recently completed their time with the Foundation and are now pursuing higher education or entering professional careers. Several outgoing students shared memories of their years with the organisation and spoke about the role played by mentors, teachers and volunteers in their development.

Scholarship ceremonies often focus solely on financial assistance or academic rankings. Organisers said this year’s programme also aimed to recognise personal growth, resilience and the broader support system surrounding each student.

An unusual feature of the event was that the entire programme was designed and managed by senior students of the Foundation. The students handled planning, coordination and stage management responsibilities, giving them practical experience in leadership, teamwork and communication.

Education specialists increasingly view such activities as important for developing confidence and organisational abilities alongside classroom learning. Exposure to public speaking, event management and teamwork can help students prepare for university life and future employment opportunities.

The programme included scholarship presentations, student success stories and messages of appreciation from families and supporters. Former students, mentors and volunteers also interacted with current students and their families during the gathering.

The Visamo Scholarship event concluded with a vote of thanks, followed by lunch for participants.

This year’s Scholarship Day was held under the theme “Celebrating Potential. Empowering Futures.” and carried the message “Honouring Dreams. Investing in Tomorrow.”

For many of the families present at the Ahmedabad event, the occasion represented more than an annual award ceremony. It marked educational milestones that might otherwise have remained out of reach and reflected the continuing role played by community-based organisations in supporting children facing economic and social barriers.

As India continues efforts to improve educational outcomes and reduce inequalities in access to learning, programmes that combine financial assistance with mentoring, guidance and community support are likely to remain an important part of that work.
