CXO Meet Pushes Pharma Towards AI Revolution

Smart Manufacturing Boosts Ahmedabad Pharma Growth and Compliance

A grand “CXO Meet” was successfully organised at The Gateway on Sindhu Bhavan Road in Ahmedabad to accelerate the digital revolution and global regulatory compliance in India’s pharmaceutical sector. Jointly hosted by Khodiyar Technovation Pvt. Ltd. (KTPL) and global technology leader Siemens, this high-profile event witnessed large-scale attendance from top CEOs, MDs, plant heads, and digital transformation experts from the pharma industry. Further information regarding this was shared on the occasion by Jignesh Patel, Founder and Director of Khodiyar Group; Bhagyesh Patel, CTO and COO of the company; and Strategic Consultants Dr Ragin Shah and Dharmendra Joshi.

Globally known as the “Pharmacy of the World,” India supplies approximately 20% of the world’s generic medicines and over 50% of its vaccines. Industry experts have said that India’s pharma sector is now entering a new phase where digital systems, automation, and artificial intelligence are becoming as important as manufacturing strength. Reports published in recent months by pharma industry journals and technology platforms have shown that global drug companies are demanding faster production, better tracking systems, and stronger compliance with international rules.

The country’s massive manufacturing capacity caters to 40% of generic medicine requirements in the USA, 25% of medicines in the UK, and 60% of UNICEF’s vaccine needs. India’s pharmaceutical exports have continued to rise steadily, with the industry now exporting medicines to more than 190 countries. Analysts believe this growth is pushing companies to modernise factories and adopt paperless manufacturing systems to avoid delays during inspections and audits.

Due to large-scale production and affordable pricing, India has made life-saving medicines accessible to the common man across more than 190 countries worldwide. Experts from international healthcare forums have often pointed out that India’s ability to supply affordable medicines became especially important during the COVID-19 pandemic, when many countries depended on Indian-made vaccines and generic drugs. This has also increased pressure on manufacturers to maintain world-class quality standards at every production stage.

Gujarat serves as the main engine of this national pharmaceutical prowess, contributing over 30% to India’s total pharma turnover and nearly 28% to its exports. The state boasts more than 4,000 active manufacturing units. Ahmedabad and Vadodara are widely seen as major pharma hubs, housing some of India’s leading pharmaceutical companies. Industry observers say Gujarat’s strong port network, industrial infrastructure, and skilled workforce have helped the state become one of the biggest pharmaceutical manufacturing centres in Asia.

During this event, six special sessions were conducted addressing the core challenges of the pharma sector, such as product quality, production speed, data integrity, and global regulatory approvals. The first session focused on the overview of the Digital Thread for Pharmaceuticals, while the second session covered Digital R&D and Scientific Data Foundation. Experts explained that digital research systems are now helping scientists store and track huge amounts of laboratory data safely, reducing the risk of human error and improving transparency during drug development.

Subsequently, the third session explained a revolutionary technique utilising simulation-driven product and process design to accelerate drug discovery and formulation processes, thereby reducing product time-to-market by 20% to 30%. Global pharma companies have increasingly started using digital twins and simulation technology to test manufacturing processes before actual production begins. Technology specialists say this method saves money, cuts wastage, and helps companies launch medicines more quickly without affecting safety standards.

The fourth session of the event guided ‘Right-First-Time’ production, Electronic Batch Records (EBR), and smart manufacturing (MES/MOM). Industry reports have shown that paperless manufacturing systems are becoming a preferred choice for pharmaceutical companies worldwide. Electronic Batch Records help companies maintain complete digital records of each production cycle, making audits simpler and reducing paperwork. Experts believe this system also improves traceability and helps factories quickly identify any manufacturing issues before products reach the market.

The fifth session offered insights into low-code digital innovation for pharma. Technology professionals explained that low-code platforms are helping pharma companies build digital tools much faster without requiring large software development teams. This approach is proving useful for medium-sized manufacturers that want to modernise operations while controlling costs.

In the sixth session, Technical Lead Pawan Kallurkar presented seamless methodologies to comply with regulations of global bodies like the USFDA, EMA, and PMDA with zero defects by leveraging Industrial AI. Regulatory experts have repeatedly warned that even small documentation mistakes can lead to warning letters or export restrictions from international agencies. Artificial intelligence systems are now being tested to monitor production quality in real time and reduce compliance risks.

The attending experts unanimously stated that by adopting these modern digital solutions, pharma companies can improve drug quality, simplify audit processes through paperless systems, and significantly reduce production costs. Many industry leaders also believe that automation will play a major role in helping Indian pharma companies stay competitive as global demand for affordable medicines continues to grow.

A business networking session was also organised during the event, where stalwarts of the pharma sector from Ahmedabad and surrounding areas exchanged ideas and welcomed this digital transformation of the pharmaceutical industry. The primary objective of Khodiyar Technovation Pvt. Ltd. behind this initiative, in collaboration with Siemens, is to make the Indian pharma industry smarter, safer, and future-ready on a global scale.
