Chhattisgarh Tourism Roadshow Brings Attractions to Ahmedabad

Chhattisgarh Takes Its Tourism Pitch to Ahmedabad, Seeking More Visitors from Gujarat

The state’s forests, waterfalls, temples and tribal heritage are at the centre of a tourism roadshow aimed at travel agents and tour operators. Official figures show domestic visits have grown, though foreign visitor numbers remain low.

Chhattisgarh Tourism brought its campaign to Ahmedabad on Friday, 30 October 2026, with a roadshow aimed at attracting more visitors from Gujarat and building ties with travel agents and tour operators.

The event, organised by Chhattisgarh Tourism with the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) as its industry partner, focused on the state’s forests, waterfalls, wildlife, temples and tribal culture.

The roadshow comes as domestic travel continues to grow in India. Chhattisgarh recorded about 31.49 million domestic tourist visits in 2024, up from 26.02 million in 2023, according to figures compiled by the Reserve Bank of India from tourism data. The rise suggests growing interest in the state, though the figures count visits rather than unique travellers.

For Chhattisgarh, the task is to turn that interest into longer stays and more travel spending. The Ahmedabad event seeks to bring local travel businesses into the effort, with the aim of getting more tour operators to include the state in their holiday plans.

Chhattisgarh has a range of places that can appeal to visitors with different interests. Bastar is known for its tribal traditions and natural surroundings. The Chitrakote Waterfalls, on the Indravati River near Jagdalpur, are among the state’s best-known attractions. The falls are about 95 feet high and are at their fullest during and after the monsoon, usually between July and October.

The state also has ancient temples, archaeological sites, limestone caves, trekking routes, wildlife reserves, handicrafts and village homestays. These attractions can suit travellers interested in nature, history, faith and local life.

Chhattisgarh Tourism Board lists destinations such as Kanger Valley National Park, Sirpur and Bhoramdeo Temple among the places visitors can explore. Each offers a different reason to travel, from forests and wildlife to historic buildings and religious sites.

For Gujarat’s travel trade, the roadshow offers a chance to learn more about these destinations and consider how they might fit into holiday packages. Travel agents can help visitors plan routes, choose places to stay and decide how much time to spend at each stop.

Shri Neelu Sharma, Chairman of the Chhattisgarh Tourism Board, said, “Chhattisgarh’s natural landscapes, rich biodiversity and cultural traditions offer unique experiences for travellers. We encourage visitors and tour operators to explore the state’s diverse destinations and help bring its tourism potential to a wider audience.”

Dr S. Bharathi Dasan (IAS), Secretary, Tourism Department, Government of Chhattisgarh, said, “From dense deciduous forests and magnificent waterfalls to ancient temples, heritage sites and traditional handicrafts, Chhattisgarh offers a diverse range of experiences. We look forward to strengthening travel trade partnerships and encouraging more visitors to discover the state.”

Shri Saumil Ranjan Chaubey (IAS), Managing Director of the Chhattisgarh Tourism Board, said the roadshow would help the state connect with travel professionals and develop new partnerships.

“The roadshow provides an opportunity to connect with travel professionals, showcase the state’s varied tourism offerings and develop new partnerships. Greater collaboration can help introduce Chhattisgarh’s emerging destinations to more domestic travellers,” he said.

Shri Jaspreet Singh Bhatia, Chair of the FICCI Chhattisgarh Tourism Committee and President of the Chhattisgarh Travel Trade Association, said the event could help travel agents and tourism businesses work together to promote the state.

“The roadshow creates opportunities for travel agents and tourism stakeholders to collaborate in promoting Chhattisgarh. Stronger industry connections can help increase destination awareness and encourage the inclusion of the state in domestic travel itineraries,” he said.

The figures show that the state has room to grow its tourism business. Chhattisgarh recorded 3,485 foreign tourist visits in 2024, compared with 953 in 2023, according to government data. While the increase is large in percentage terms, the total remains small compared with the millions of domestic visits recorded each year.

This makes domestic travellers an important audience for the state. Gujarat, with its large travel market, could help Chhattisgarh reach more people who are looking for destinations outside the usual holiday routes.

The roadshow also raises a practical question: how easily can visitors reach and travel between the state’s attractions? Chhattisgarh Tourism Board identifies Raipur as a key entry point, with Swami Vivekananda Airport and rail connections. Bastar and other destinations may require further road travel, so clear itineraries and reliable local transport can matter when visitors plan their trips.

Tourism can bring income to hotels, transport operators, guides, restaurants, craft workers and local communities. Village homestays and local cultural experiences may give visitors a closer view of life in the region while creating business for residents.

But growth also needs care. Forests, waterfalls, wildlife areas and heritage sites need protection as visitor numbers rise. Good planning, safe travel facilities and respect for local communities will be important if tourism is to grow without harming the places people come to see.

The Ahmedabad roadshow aims to encourage travel agents to build new packages and help more visitors discover Chhattisgarh. Its success will depend on what follows the event: the travel plans created, the partnerships formed and the number of people who choose to visit the state.
