Indian Coast Guard was awarded the best initiative award by the Honourable Chief Minister of Gujarat Shri Bhupendrabhai Patel in the presence of Honourable MoS-Home Government of Gujarat Shri Harsh Sanghavi during a function organized by Gujarat First Media Group on 09 August 2023 at Mahatma Mandir Gandhinagar.
The award was in recognition of numerous anti-smuggling operations undertaken off the coast of Gujarat & HADR efforts during the recent cyclone Biparjoy. It may be noted that, in the last two years, the Indian Coast Guard has undertaken 08 joint operations in collaboration with ATS, Gujarat Police wherein 407 Kg of Heroin have been apprehended worth Rs 2355 Crore. Also, Ships and Aircraft of the Indian Coast Guard saved 145 lives at sea, braving adverse sea and weather conditions. Midnight Rescue of 07 fishermen from a stranded Fishing Boat near Diu on August 21, the Rescue of 22 seafarers from MV Global King-I that had sunk 105 NM from Porbandar on July 22, and the challenging evacuation of 50 men from Oil Rig ‘Key Singapore’ near Okha during recent cyclone Biprajoy and some of the prominent mission undertaken in the recent past.
The award was received by Inspector General AK Harbola, TM, Commander of Coast Guard Region (North West).
