Mumbai witnessed a major fitness revolution this weekend as the city proudly hosted India’s very first HYROX race. Held at the NESCO Centre in Goregaon, the event turned into a grand celebration of health, strength, and community. With over 1,650 participants coming in from 24 different countries, the atmosphere was electric and full of motivation.
For those who haven’t heard of it yet, HYROX is a unique fitness race format that challenges athletes with eight 1-kilometre runs, each followed by a different functional workout. These include exercises like the SkiErg, sledge push and pull, burpee broad jumps, rowing, and wall balls. Unlike traditional marathons or gym routines, HYROX combines cardio and strength, making it a balanced and all-inclusive fitness competition.
The event was supported in style by PUMA, the official apparel and footwear partner, who showcased some energetic HYROX-themed merchandise. Adding star power to the event were athletes like Srihari Natraj, a double Olympian swimmer, and Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, the goalkeeper for Bengaluru FC.
“HYROX is a whole new format of fitness,” said Srihari Natraj. “It’s fun and full of variety, making it very addictive. Whether you’re into running, lifting, or just staying active, HYROX has something for everyone. This is going to catch on fast in India!”
Gurpreet Singh Sandhu echoed the excitement, saying:
“It’s amazing to have HYROX in India. It helps people like me, who are professional athletes, stay fit in a more engaging way. It’s not just about lifting weights anymore – this event pushes you in so many different ways.”
One of the most inspiring aspects of HYROX Mumbai was the diversity of participants. From 16-year-old Gawale Sayee to 78-year-old Virendra Sood, people of all ages took part. It wasn’t just for elite athletes – it was open to everyone who loves fitness.
Corporate participants like Anurag Rajshekar from Bengaluru added another dimension to the event. Competing with his colleagues, he shared:
“We’ve always enjoyed small fitness challenges at work, but HYROX took it to a whole new level. It was fun, competitive, and a great way to bond outside the office. We truly felt like champions!”
Participants at the Mumbai event weren’t just racing for fun – they were also competing for a chance to qualify for the HYROX World Championships 2025 in Chicago. That global connection is what makes HYROX special – it links local fitness communities with international opportunities.
And for those who missed out this time, don’t worry – the next big HYROX event in India is just around the corner. Delhi will host the next race on July 19, 2025, and registrations will be available soon on the official website.
HYROX India is made possible through a collaboration between HYROX World and Yoska, a fitness company based in India. The event had strong backing from global brands:
PUMA – Apparel & Footwear Partner
Centr – Official Fitness Partner (Founded by Chris Hemsworth)
Concept 2 – Equipment Partner
Myprotein – Nutrition Partner
Red Bull – Energy Partner
This strong team effort ensured a seamless and energetic event, laying a strong foundation for future races.
In a country where marathons, cricket, and yoga dominate the fitness space, HYROX is a breath of fresh air. It introduces a challenging yet fun way to train that fits both beginners and advanced athletes.
As the event wrapped up with cheering crowds and tired but happy faces, one thing became clear – India is ready for this new chapter in fitness. Whether you’re 16 or 78, a gym freak or a casual runner, HYROX offers something powerful: a community, a challenge, and a celebration of human strength.
