The distinctive Kariyavar bonus plan offered by Gopal Snacks empowers female employees.
Over eight years, the company has awarded 423 eligible workers wedding bonuses totalling more than Rs. 5.35 crore.
Rajkot: Gopal Snacks, one of India’s leading companies in the organised traditional snack sector, has been offering its unmarried female employees a unique Kanya Vivah bonus —a monetary gift at the time of their marriage —as a notable example of a women-centric workplace strategy. Since its launch in 2016, the program has distributed over Rs. 5.35 crore, providing women with substantial assistance as they embark on new chapters in their lives.
The Kanya Vivah bonus is granted to unmarried female employees who have completed at least one year of service and resign within 90 days of their marriage, specifically to support their marriage. Over the past eight years, 423 daughters have benefited from the scheme, which provides individual bonuses of as much as Rs. 11.20 lakh, depending on the duration of their service and their role within the organisation.
The initiative not only reflects Gopal Snacks’ commitment to women’s empowerment but also highlights the emotional and cultural significance of supporting women during their marriage.
“The Kanya Vivah bonus is our way of showing gratitude to our female employees for their dedication and service,” stated Raj Hadvani, CEO of Gopal Snacks. We think it is our responsibility to provide them with both financial and emotional assistance as they embark on a new path, and marriage is a significant milestone.
The wedding bonus has grown to be one of the most prestigious and appreciated employee bonuses offered by the corporation, with 30 workers receiving Rs. 24.34 lakh in 2016–17 and 87 employees receiving Rs. 1.08 crore in 2020–21. The biggest individual bonus in 2023–24 was Rs. 6.56 lakh, while 39 women received a total of Rs. 66.02 lakh.
The program, which is organised under Gopal Snacks’ Kanya Vivah Yojana policy, has a strict eligibility requirement. Eligible workers usually give HR advance notice of their impending marriage and submit a formal resignation. After their employment with the company, the bonus is paid out. Senior management presents the checks to the daughter’s relatives to make it even more memorable.
The well-considered move supports Gopal Snacks’ goal of creating a welcoming and encouraging work environment where women are genuinely appreciated.
