“A Tamil Tradition Comes Alive in Ahmedabad. “Sambar Café’s Mango Feast You Can’t Miss!”
With its approaching Mango Madness festival, Ahmedabad’s well-known Sambar Café is transforming the summer heat into a tart and sweet celebration! Foodies may indulge in more than 20 delectable South Indian dishes from May 24 to June 1, many of which use the mango, everyone’s favourite summer fruit. This celebration offers a feast that is as colourful as it is tasty, regardless of your preference for the rich sweetness of ripe mangos or the zesty kick of raw mangos.
Speaking to Mrs. Jayanti Santosh, she says that most of the ingredients, including rice, are imported from Tamil Nadu. Surprisingly, Mangoes of a special type are also imported from Tamil Nadu.

“Mangoes aren’t just a fruit—they’re a part of our summer traditions in South India,” said Mrs. Jayanti Santosh, the café’s founder, expressing her excitement. We hope to spread that happiness with Mango Madness by using recipes that have been handed down over the years. With options like Mangai Sadam (mango rice), Mambazha Payasam (a creamy mango pudding) and Mambazha Rasam (a sour mango soup), the menu is a tribute to South Indian cooking. Even traditional sides like Vazhakkai Varuval (crispy fried plantains) and beet Thoran (spicy stir-fried beets) are given a mango touch.

However, this is a cultural experience rather than merely a culinary one. Did you know that the Tamil word “mangai” is the root of the English term “mango”? The celebration will showcase the fruit’s rich cultural heritage in South India, and for a more genuine touch, it will be served on environmentally friendly banana leaves.
Put this on your calendars! During specific lunch and supper hours, Sambar Café’s Ghuma, Manipur location will be illuminated with Mango Madness. Experience summer like never before at lunch on May 25 and June 1 (12:30–1:30 PM) and dinner sittings on May 24, 30, and 31 (7:00–8:30 PM). Due to seat limitations, reservations must be made in advance!

With locations in Bodakdev and Navrangpura, Sambar Café has established a solid reputation for introducing authentic South Indian cuisine to Ahmedabad. Their chefs create meals that evoke a cosy embrace from grandma’s kitchen using local, fresh ingredients. So gather your friends, forego your typical meals, and let mangoes be the main attraction!
